BRIE report in Barcelona: assessment of existing installations
The BRIE (Boletín de Reconocimiento de la Instalación Eléctrica) is a document specific to Catalonia. An authorised installer issues it after inspecting an existing, already registered installation, to confirm that it is still safe to use.
It is mainly used for homes and small installations of up to 20 kW: for example, to support a moderate power increase or when the distribution company asks for an older installation to be checked. We inspect the installation, fix anything needed and issue the BRIE.
Frequently asked questions
When is a BRIE required?
Usually when the distribution company asks you to show that an existing installation is still safe, for example for some power increases in homes or after an inspection of an installation more than 20 years old. Call us and we will confirm whether you need a BRIE or a CIE.
What if the installation fails the inspection?
We explain what needs to be upgraded and why, carry out the repairs and issue the document once the installation complies.
What do I need to request it?
The account holder's details, the address of the installation and, if you have one, a recent electricity bill.
Does a BRIE replace the electrical certificate (CIE)?
Not always. The BRIE covers existing installations that have not been significantly modified; a new or renovated installation needs a CIE.
